Penn Part 231 Ssv8500 Sku#1277213 Gear
t sometime in the past Penn made an inline change to the diameter of the post which holds the crosswind gear on the SSV8500 reel.
The old post diameter was approximately a 1/4" diameter while the newer post is approximately a 5/16" diameter.
The newer improved SSV8500 reel version must ONLY take the approximately 5/16" I.D. crosswind gear.
Future 1277213 Gear 231 SSV8500 stock will ONLY be the approximately 5/16" I.D. crosswind gear which will NOT WORK on the old version 1/4" post.
There is no separate part number for the old discontinued 1/4" crosswind gear.
We will most likely no longer be able to provide the 1/4" crosswind gear but please make a written inquiry for us to double check just in case some stragglers can be located.
